About Us

The Kinnick Varsity Cheerleaders
are group of girls and boys grades 9-12 located in
Yokosuka, Japan who join together to cheer and
compete. Cheer season for Kinnick is located during
Football and Basketball season.

Requirements

To make varsity you have to go through the three
consecutive days of practice and evaluation. You will
have two days of being taught and to practice and one
day to show the judges what you’ve got. They can also
be pre-evaluating you over the course of those days.
During tryouts you will have to have a round-off,
perform a dance, perform a cheer, perform a chant, and
do a toe touch spin prep pike. It may sound like a lot
to handle but the Kinnick Cheerleaders do not settle
we get the best of the best!

What you will learn

During these two seasons a year we hope that the boys
and girls will improve their cheering abilities
overall, as well as learning new techniques and
skills. For our boys we highly encourage the learning
of tumbling. For our girls we encourage a lot more
such as the tightness of motions, tumbling as well,
dance skills, projection, and smiles. For both of our
kids though we definitely want learning to work as a
team and stunting as well. We want the kids to be able
to come out of it with new material and new
experiences.

Goals

Our goals are to have every cheerleader walking out of
a season improved more than they were before, and
bringing spirit to everyone in the school and people
around them. Also, competitions are what we work up
to. We want to prove once again we are the best of the
best.

Compete ?

I have mentioned a lot about competition. We have two
competitions a year, one during football season and
one during basketball season. The first one we go to
is during football season, its called far east. We go
to far east and compete against cheer teams from all
around Japan to see who is truly the best. The schools
are split into large school and small school, based on
the amount of kids in your school. We are a large
school, and we have won 3 consecutive years in a row
and are about to go to our third one this year. The
competition hands out a series of awards as a team and
as an individual, yet what everyone wants to win is
the very last day of competition which determines the
over all winners.
The second competition we go to is during basketball
season its called ASIJ Comp. (short for competition).
Here we only compete against a few schools with a
large routine that shows off all of our skills in just
that one routine. We will be judged, and in the end
you will only have one winner, whereas in far east you
have two one for small school and one for large
school. In ASIJ Comp. no matter the number of kids in
your school its only one competition, one winner.
So far we are consecutive winners for both, and we
plan to keep it going in the future.
